State Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas has worked as a classroom teacher, civil leader,
City Councilmember, State Assemblyman and State Senator. He has a long record of working to bring people in
communities together to improve services they need and deserve in their neighborhoods.
Delivering change our communities need.
Mark Ridley-Thomas helped create thousands of jobs and brought millions of dollars in business and economic development to the communities and neighborhoods he has represented over the past 16-years.
He worked with small business advocates to fight for $25 million per year in community development tax credits to provide incentives for financial firms that invest funds in community rebuilding and revitalization projects that create jobs.
He heard the concerns of countless families concerned about their children's health and passed the law creating school health centers, so 6-million students statewide could have access to healthcare if they became ill or were injured.
He joined cancer victims and their families in the fight for funds for colorectal cancer screenings to save the lives of thousands of men and women who die each year because they can't afford the simple medical test that will help them detect and combat 'America's Second Deadliest Disease'.
He worked with senior citizen groups and consumer organizations to require fingerprints and background checks for all paid caregivers to safeguard vulnerable senior citizens who might unknowingly open their homes to prospective caregivers with a criminal past.
He worked with homecare workers unions to provide advanced professional In-Home Support Services training, so workers can improve their skills in providing care for aged, blind or disabled persons with unique in-home care needs.
He worked with thousands of pet lovers to mount a campaign against a 'pet store giant' to force that retail chain to stop abusing dogs and cats for sale to the public. He worked with pet advocates to make veterinary care for ill or injured animals the basic standard of care in California for the largest pet store operator in the nation.
That's the kind of change we need in L.A. County!
That's the kind of leadership and change you can expect when Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas is elected L.A. County Supervisor for the people of the Second District.
